Damin + Tiana

My first thought when I arrived at Damin and Tiana’s wedding was that designers’ weddings are just awesome. The use of color, typography, and space to create a beautiful, inviting, and above all intriguing space is amazing to me. Cards with quotations from all sorts of sources regarding love sat at every table, my favorite detail to be sure.

But beyond all that, Damin and Tiana were just fun to be around. Incredibly friendly and accessible, they made my day a piece of cake. Hats off to Tiana for going through all of this with a wrecked knee, it certainly made our choice of a mountain as a shooting location interesting!

MaryAnn + Steve: Wedding

Remember MaryAnn and Steve’s high-energy engagement shoot from a while back? Well their wedding was every bit as fun, with all sorts of neat traditions drawn from their Filipino and Scandinavian heritage as well as the Navy.

We started the day at the US Grant in downtown San Diego, then moved to the Gaslamp and eventually to the Admiral Kidd Club for the ceremony and reception. Big thanks to Kristy Walker for second-shooting on this one!

Kevin and Joy: Wedding

Well here it is, the long-awaited wedding of Kevin and Joy! And talk about a beautiful day. Incredible details, amazing people, and a general attitude of fun came together to make one of my favorite weddings I’ve shot in a while. Between all my friends from my San Diego church, my old college friend Krystel of Couture Events who handled coordinating duties, and Kristy Walker once again ably tackling second shooter duties, it really just felt like settling into a comfy old couch. Congratulations you two, all the best!

Emily and Alex: Wedding, Part 2

As promised, here’s the rest! Continuing on from Part 1, everything about the day, start to finish, was pretty fantastic. The ceremony was beautiful and creative, from to the choice of scripture (well chosen, by the way) to bringing the grandparents up in front to pray over Alex and Emily. Dwindling light meant tricky but moody and evocative shooting conditions, the kind of challenge you don’t actually mind as a photographer. Then there was the party. And oh, what a party. DJ Sean Sand kept things going with the best taste in music I’ve encountered at a wedding, and the couple brought more energy than I thought possible and made sure the dance floor was never empty. All in all, an absolute grand time and a beautiful day, congratulations to you two! Thanks for making me a part of it.

[...] This is a first: so many great shots that I’m breaking up the post into two parts. This one will have everything leading up to the ceremony, stay tuned tomorrow for everything else! (edit: and here it is!) [...]

Emily and Alex: Wedding, Part 1

This is a first: so many great shots that I’m breaking up the post into two parts. This one will have everything leading up to the ceremony, stay tuned tomorrow for everything else! (edit: and here it is!)

What to say? Emily and Alex are a dream to shoot. They seem to find it just as easy to laugh and kiss as they do striking a perfect, ad-campaign-worthy pose. So much fun. The wedding was at El Adobe in San Juan Capistrano, and we cruised around the downtown area shooting whenever something caught our eye. We barely made it into the mission before they shut down for the evening, and managed to get several beautiful shots in a span of about 4 minutes. Not too shabby. I’ll talk more about the day later, but for now a big thanks to my good friendĀ Kristy Walker for second shooting this for me, it made all the difference.
